In this episode of The Produce Industry Podcast w/ Patrick Kelly we chat with Jenn Armen, Vice President of Okanagan Speciality Fruit, Inc. and leaders behind the Arctic® Apple Brands. Patrick and Jenn talk about the two products that are available on the market and yes they are “GMO”. We discuss the components behind how the apple was made the purpose behind creating and apple for the fresh cut industry.
Grown in orchards in Washington State, Arctic® apples maintain just picked freshness, flavor & color after slicing. Over 40% of apples that are grown end up wasted, often due to superficial browning from bruising and slicing. That’s why they developed Arctic® apple varieties – more apples tasted and less apples wasted. Arctic® apples is the flagship product of Okanagan Specialty Fruits (OSF).
Beyond how it was developed these are trees that now grow this fruit each year for the marketplace. We also learn a bit of about the smell when you open the bag vs. the competitors and how to use these apples in recipes inside the kitchen.
Join Jenn and Patrick discuss all things Arctic® Apples!
